Jerry Mbakogu ends long goal drought with a brace

Jerry Mbakogu finally ended his goal drought and did it in style, as he scored two goals for Carpi in the 2:2 draw against Bari in Italian Serie B.


The encounter at Stadio Comunale San Nicolain Bari was a fast-paced match with both sides focused on attack.

Bari defender Ceppitelli gave his side lead on 22 minutes, when he lost his marker and headed the ball in from close range. The visitors pegged back quickly, after six minutes.

Mbakogu picked up the long pass at the edge of ppenalty area, dribbled past two opponents and despite the another defender closing down on him, fired a powerful shot into the top left corner.

He scored the second goal after the break, in the 68th minute with a volley shot from 6 yards. The visitors held on to the narrow lead bravely till the injury time, when a lack of concentration and defensive mix up allowed Statella to equalize from few yards.

Those were Mbakogu's first two goals this season for Carpi. Carpi are in 14th place in 22-team Serie B after 18 rounds.
