The Real Madrid goalscorer is shortlisted for the award alongside Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery.
And his national team boss has insisted that the record-breaking striker should walk away with the trophy.
“For me, he’s the best player in the world,” the tactician told reporters.
“It would be unfair if he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or. He deserved it when he won La Liga with Real Madrid [in 2011-12].
“In any case, he has already done his job, he’s shown his talent and all there is to do now is wait.
“The affection the Portuguese people feel for him won’t change. He’s an extremely professional, talented and competitive footballer.”
