The Premier League side have been drawn against the Blaugrana in the Last 16 of the competition, and after Yaya Toure insisted that the Catalans were afraid of his men, the Spain international has hit back.
“[Are we scared?] No. This is football, the Champions League and Barça cannot be scared of anyone,” he told Marca.
“It's going to be an intense and exciting tie. I think City was the toughest side we could have drawn and will prove a good test for us.
“City aew doing great, Bayern, we're up there too, Atlético... The ties are in two months and a lot can change in that time.”
The Masia graduate then commented on the fact he has spent a lot of time on the bench this season, and the reasons he hasn’t won a Ballon d’Or.
“I don't know how the numbers stack up compared with other years, but these things are normal.
“Especially during the early stages of the season, and that's the way it has to be, because we all have to play and feel useful. I feel great about the team and myself.
“We still have a lot to look forward to.
“There are so many players in the game and only a few are lucky enough to win [the Ballon d’Or].
“I don't lose any sleep over it. It's great to just be there challenging for it. I've been named in the world's best starting XI for many years... These things are less important and our work over the course of the year is what really counts.”
