Three domestic clubs stand to earn total of =N=37.5 million (equivalent
of 150,000 pounds) this month after their players were included in the
squad to represent Nigeria at the mundial.
Every club contributing a player, whether home based or foreign
professional, to the World Cup pool will be paid approximately £50,000
per player.
And that means Gombe United, Warri Wolves and Sunshine Stars will
benefit from this windfall which was introduced by Football's governing
body, FIFA at South Africa 2010.
For the last competition, FIFA, paid a total of $40 million to clubs
whereas they have set aside $70 million less bank charges and taxes to
be paid to teams this year, according to circular number 1381.
Stephen Keshi has included Gombe United's goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim,
Warri Wolves skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe and Sunshine Stars defender Kunle
Odunlami on the 23-man roster.
FIFA shall credit the bank account of the Nigeria Football Football
with the sum of £150,000 sometime this week before the local regulator
distributes the amount equally to the three Glo Premier League teams.
The 23 players Lars Lagerback took to South Africa 2010 were all based
overseas, and as a result no payment was made to the Nigeria Football
Federation by FIFA.
