It was a weekend of upsets at the FMCG
Games football event as unheralded teams produced stunning results
against their more fancied opponents.
Nestle Plc and Unilever defeated last year’s finalists and holders respectively to reach the final of the 2014 edition.
It all began with the first game of the
day when a goal in each half by Ismail Ibrahim gave Nestle Plc a
deserved 2-0 win over PZ Cussons to reach the final.
In the second match, 10-man Unilever also booked their place in the final with a 2-1 win over defending champions, Dufil Prima.
Richard Akaholelor opened the scoring for
Unilever in the 10th minute but Unilever were reduced to 10 men just
after the break when Tunde Oladejo was sent off for an elbow on a Dufil
defender.
However, a determined Unilever side were
able to seal the game with a second goal from Dayo Akintade late on
before Dufil’s Tunde Olabisi grabbed a consolation for his side.
