According to a top source of SL10 at Nigeria’s sports ministry, ‘the bonus row in the Super Eagles camp will be resolved as funds have been approved by the country’s finance ministry’.
The sports minister, Tammy Danagogo has already left for Brazil, where he will deliver a special message to the team from Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan. The minister had earlier on Friday met with Senate President, David Mark, before meeting with minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Also on Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan spoke directly to the players.
“The president has spoken to the players and they have agreed to travel to Campinas for the game against France,” the source revealed to SL10.
After holding series of meetings, the team finally departed Campinas for Brasilia, and had a training session after missing out of Thursday’s session due to the disagreements on the payment of bonuses.
It is still unclear how much will eventually be paid to the players and when, even though the initial agreement was pegged at $30,000 for a round of 16 placing.
A strong Nigerian delegation led by Senate President, David Mark is expected to travel to Brazil should Nigeria qualify to the quarter finals, having already witnessed the first group game against Iran.
