Lawal: There’s A Problem In Nigerian Football

Former international slams Super Eagles players following 1-1 draw with South Africa.

Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has suggested the overseas based players should be dropped from the Super Eagles following the 1-1 draw against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in an international friendly on Sunday.

The former Super Eagles midfielder is of the opinion that the home based placed should be developed to replace the overseas based players if they are unwilling to give their best to the country.

“I keep asking myself what we should do and it seems like we should concentrate on our league players and try to build the team with them,” he told sl10.ng.

“We have to start taking action. If we invite the overseas based players and they’re not giving their best, we have to consider our league players.

“There’s no reason to invite the overseas based guys and they cannot give their one hundred percent but yet they give to their clubs.

“We cannot spend so much money to bring them here and yet they cannot give us results. The game against Uganda was nothing to write home about and we played yet another draw against South Africa and they even created more chances than us.

“If Uganda can come to Nigeria and beat us, it shows that we have a lot of problems and it means we’re bad, very bad and when I say these things, people think I just like being critical but it’s the truth,” he lamented.
