West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce writing in his column for London Evening Standard has reacted to news linking him to the managerial jobs of Nigeria, Sunderland and QPR.
“Big Sam” like the West Ham manager loved to be called, accepted the speculations are rife, because he is out of contract in the summer and so far an extension with West Ham is yet to be signed.
“At the last count I believe I’ve been linked with three jobs this week: Sunderland, QPR and Nigeria!” He wrote in his column.
“The first thing I have to say is that, in case nobody noticed, I still have a job here at West Ham.
“The season is far from over, there are 27 points at stake and it’s time we began helping ourselves to some of them.”
On the links to the Nigeria job Allardyce was however coy resorting to praising Austin Jay Jay Okocha, his former captain at Bolton Wanderers quoting he is the reason he is being linked to the Nigeria job, without categorically stating the reports are false.
SL10.ng reported Jay Jay Okocha met with the West Ham manager advisers in London when he visited with group, of Nigeria ex internationals on a match taking course in the United Kingdom.
“I presume the Nigeria connection, for example, is because Jay Jay Okocha, who played for me at Bolton, and is now involved in football is in that country,” he said.
“For me, Jay Jay is a top man, one of the best I’ve met and Nigeria’s equivalent to David Beckham, in his stature and the esteem he commands in his homeland.
“Here is a small example of the man. He can speak four different languages, he is seen as flamboyant on the field of play but off it, he is very calm, collected, family orientated and quite a religious person.
“He also has had the intelligence to learn valuable lessons from wherever life has taken him, from Nigeria to Germany, Turkey, France and then England.”
