Mashaba: We Were The Better Side

Coach Ephraim Mashaba felt Bafana Bafana were the better side for much of the 1-1 draw with Nigeria, and naturally he was disappointed to see his team miss another penalty on Sunday.

Bafana, who missed a spotkick through Andile Jali, needed a last-gasp equaliser from Bongani Zungu to cancel out an 85th minute opener from Ahmed Musa at Mbombela Stadium.

Jali's failed attempt from the spot brought back memories of Tokelo Rantie's penalty miss in the 3-1 loss to Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations on January 19.

Mashaba said: "I want to say to the boys congratulations, they played very well.

"We were unfortunate to not score more goals... I don't want to talk about that penalty again.

"The boys fought to the end and that's how we got the goal."

He added: "It's a normal thing, we were all over them for three quarters of the game until we missed the penalty. That's where you need leaders in the game, to push.

"It's one of those things. The second time it happens, it gives cause for concern."
