Kangaroo NWFL Congress Held In Abuja

The Nigeria Women Football League Congress took place at the Namet Suites in Abuja on Tuesday, with lots of flaws noticed.

The Congress which was earlier fixed for last week was postponed to Tuesday 24th March, because Chairperson of the NWFL, Chief (Mrs) Dilichukwu Onyedinma was the leader of delegation to Super Falcons' All African Games Qualifiers against Mali in Bamako.

According to mails circulated to stakeholders of women football in Nigeria, the Congress was supposed to get underway by 10am, but it didn't commence until 12:25pm, SL10 man at the venue Ademetan Abayomi authoritatively reports.

The Congress Men and Women agreed on an Abridged League for the 2014/15 season and that the new campaign will get underway by May 2nd.

With deliberations over, Madam Dilichukwu Onyedinma wasn't spotted at the match venue to present the trophy to champions of the 2013/14 season, Rivers Angels.

And it was also gathered that draws for Group A and B for the Abridged League which was supposed to held in the presence of the delegates didn't take place to her absence.

Reports suggest she connected a flight to Uyo in order to attend the Nigeria Football Federation board meeting fixed for Tuesday night.

Some aggrieved club officials weren't happy with her continual negligence of her duties as the supremo of the League Body.

“They have turned women football administration to their personal inheritance. Madam Dilichukwu just thinks she can toss us like coin. It's not fair at all,” an administrator told SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi at Namet Suites on Tuesday night.

“She (Dilichukwu) doesn't regard us at all. She attended an event before receiving the delegates and just vanished without presenting the trophy and conducting the draws. So they would later tell us a ''Kangaroo Draw'' was conducted. No way, he stated.

“If she is too engaged in NFF politics, then let her resign her post as the NWFL chief and leave us too alone,” the aggrieved administrator added.

Another preferred to discuss on the abridged league stating that it's like three steps backward and called on the league body to be productive if they are to win the trust of the true women football advocates.

“Last year we agreed to play a Premier League, a concept that was well applauded; now it's an Abridged League. It's an absurd decision and three steps backward. Do we really know what we are doing?

“If they can't move us forward, the door is open for them to go. It's not compulsory they lead us. We can look for alternatives in order to move forward.

With several flaws noticed in the recently concluded NWFL congress, calls have been made by women football advocates on the need for the current league board to step-up or face the executioner's axe.
