A spirited Giwa FC fought back from a goal deficit to
register a 2-1 victory over Heartland at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and
stayed within the chasing pack.
Goals from Ibrahim Shuaibu and Amos Gyang helped the hosts record their 7th victory of the season after Bright Ejike had put the Naze Millionaires ahead early in the game.
The result leaves Heartland in the 6th spot on the Premier League table, while Giwa FC still maintained 4th position.
The visitors had the brighter start of the two, with Ejike causing problems early on and scoring the opener. The striker scored his 9th goal of the season on the 11th minute mark.
But Tope Bolus’ men soon found their rhythm, and Shuaibu latched on to Ocheme Edoh’s pass before beating goalkeeper Emmanuel Iwu with his effort.
Shuaibu was soon involved again, drilling a low shot which Iwu tipped away, before firing in a corner towards the near post.
Heartland continued to have the occasional move forwards, and the dangerous Julius Ubido curled a 20-yard effort just wide of the target.
Coach Bolus' half-time team talk had a profound effect on his players, particularly Gyang, who fired a brilliant strike for the match winner.
