Nigeria Professional Football League: Team Of The Round 17

Shooting Stars dominated the headlines for the Nigeria Premier League Week 17 after a 3-0 win at home against Giwa.

Kano Pillars never looked like champions at Akwa United, while Enyimba FC saw their unbeaten run halted by Warri Wolves.

Sunshine Stars put Bayelsa United to the sword in a 2-0 score line.

Sharks produced a stellar performance at Kwara United to grab their first in 14 match and Ifeanyi Uba FC made life uncomfortable for Nasarawa United at home.

Futball Galore's editor Ademetan Abayomi picks his star performers from the match-day seventeen fixtures.

Chidiebere Eze [Ifeanyi Eze]

His fingertip save from a Ugochukwu Leonard effort in the second half was among a string of super saves pulled by the gloves man in Makurdi.

It was an outstanding performance from a keeper who deserves the accolades.

Ndifreke Effiong [Abia Warriors]

For much of the game against FC Taraba, he played like a right-winger and his contribution was superb. Two fantastic goals from the youngster needs a standing ovation.

A young lad who epitomised coach Ladan Bosso's courageous philosophy of playing youngsters who are keen to establish themselves and run themselves into the ground for the shirt.

So carved in the shape of Barcelona's Daniel Alves.

Etim Matthew [Enugu Rangers]

This player gets better with every game for Rangers. He has made great strides so far this season.

He was once again rock solid against Lobi Stars' dangerous young attackers. He's certainly one of the reasons why the Flying Antelopes are having it good at the moment.

Lekan Gabriel [Sharks FC]

The no-nonsense figure makes my TOTW for the first time this season. Considering the week he’d had you would think he might want a lie down!

He provided a personal performance of the highest order at the heart of the Blue Angels defence.

He reorganized his defence and restricted Kwara United's long-range efforts. The rugged defender kept the hosts well in check.

Valentine Nwabili [Abia Warriors]

He was in the wilderness before he resurfaced on the local scene. The former Enyimba star was on target for Warriors against the Pride of Taraba.

He had such an enormous energy throughout the game by moving forward anytime his team was in attack.

Madu Christian [Enugu Rangers]

This was one of the best Ranger performances under Coach Imama. and the manager needs look no further than the robust midfielder for that.

Madu was the outstanding player in a great team performance. It was a display that deserved a goal but I’m sure he won’t mind too much so long as the team is winning.

Abu Azeez [Warri Wolves]

With a stellar performance that seemed exactly what Wolves needed in Warri, Abu, like an orchestra led his troops to defeat Enyimba with a near-perfect display.

His goal was just a bonus to an overall contribution to the ambitious side.

Jimoh Wasiu [Shooting Stars]

Playing in what I call the Wesley Sneijder position, the former Kwara Football Academy starlet was once again very instrumental in Sunshine stars destroying Giwa FC at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Wasiu fed his attackers very well with defence splitting passes.

Undoubtedly one of the best upcoming talents in the league.

Ibrahim Ajani [Shooting Stars]

Another masterclass performance by the former Sharks and Sunshine Stars winger. You can't ask for more. A brace and an assist, the best transfer business by any club so far in the NPFL.

He ran rings round the Giwa FC back line and turned to their nightmare.

Christian Pyagbara [Sharks FC]

The fair skinned striker looked every bit the star performer against an ill-tactically disciplined Kwara United side.

Pyagbara run rugged the Kwara defence all day and could have scored more on the day.

He is one of the best orthodox centre-forwards in the country.

The hosts, however, paid the price for leaving him unmarked in the final third on not just one occasion. Well, what did they expect? They paid for it.

Kingsley Eduwo [Sunshine Stars]

His goal was marvellous for the Owena Waves. The former Gateway United striker was a dangerous threat throughout.

His movement both on and off the ball was a joy to watch as the Bayelsa United defence repeatedly failed to track him as he ghosted in and around their penalty area.
