Lobi Overcome Akwa

Lobi Stars overcame a stubborn Akwa United side to secure a slim one-nil victory at the Aper Aku Stadium in a week 18 Nigeria Professional Football League game on Wednesday.

A lob from Anthony Okpotu 17 minutes into the match saw the Pride of Benue triumph 1-0 in Makurdi, with coach Justin Tenger leading his team to their fourth victory of the season.

But losing their week 17 clash to Rangers in Enugu, Lobi Stars showed maturity to win in front of their fans.

The goal was set up by a brilliant diagonal pass from striker Obioma Arinze, who picked out Okpotu and the latter chipped goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode for the only goal of the match.

Lobi Stars started the encounter much sharper with Akwa United goalkeeper Kayode acrobatically making a good save from Okpotu's drive.

The goal arrived two minutes after the quarter hour mark as Okpotu made no mistake, getting on a good pass from Arinze to score.

But the striker couldn't continue the game as he sustained an injury, a huge setback for his team.

Despite the loss of their key man, Lobi Stars held on for the three points that they wanted.
