Battling Sharks Earns Vital Win

Sharks took a mighty step towards Premier League safety after beating Abia Warriors 2-0 at the Sharks Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

A goal each in the first half from Christian Pyagbara and Yusuf Jaiyeola gave Festus Allen's side an advantage in a rampant display, though Warriors coach Ladan Bosso won't have been happy with his side's defending.

Sharks bossed in the possession stakes for large spells and Odinga Odinga led the Blue Angels defence charge as his side defended their final third with impressive energy.

Warriors found it difficult to penetrate as a result, and struggled to get their attacking players into the game.

Pyagbara struck his second goal in two matches within fifteen minutes. He shrugged off two players, before firing the ball to the right corner.

It was another fast start from Allen's outfit after their big win over Kwara United last weekend, and they soon doubled their lead.

For this one though, Bosso will have surely been looking at his defenders for their failure to deal with the situation. Jaiyeola headed home a corner kick taken by Chiamaka Madu.

The home side's lead was thoroughly deserved, and they didn't look troubled throughout.

The first half went by without any major worries for the Blue Angels.

But Odinga and the rest of his team mates worked their socks off. Warriors had plenty of the ball in front of Sharks, but their determination to protect Charles Thambe's goal was evident.

Not much had changed over the course of the second half either. Though Warriors failed to find their way in to Sharks box and carve out significant chances.

Sharks were never in significant danger of losing their lead, and they held on to take themselves to 17th on the ladder.
