Ali Chinwendu relieved some of the pressure on under-fire boss Stanley Eguma as his second-half winner handed Dolphins a narrow 1-0 win over Shooting Stars at the Liberation Stadium.
But while his side again looked anything but assertive, Chinwendu's 48th-minute penalty strike did hand the manager some much-needed breathing space.
Eguma can still feel the sting of the Pride of Rivers' poor form but he has already insisted he will not walk away from the job until he leads the Garden City giants back to the promised land.
But the fans who once idolised him as a record gaffer are quickly losing faith in his management.
It was a moment of respite for Dolphins as they ended an 11-game streak without a victory in the Premier League.
Dolphins had plenty of decent possession in the first half but failed to make the most of it as time and again the final ball let them down.
When they did carve an organised Shooting Stars open, the Pride of Rivers seemed to suffer a collective rush of blood to the head.
But within 3 minutes of the second period starting, Chinwendu finally gave the Dolphins faithful something to cheer.
He scored from the penalty spot for the hosts. The talented youngster calmly rolled the ball past visiting keeper Abiodun Akande for the opener.
Shooting Stars were presented with a big chance to score as Victor Ezuruike almost turned the ball to his own net.
