Kano Pillars endured a match-day of frustration as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wikki Tourists at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday.
Pillars failed to build on Nura Ibrahim giving them the lead with a 30th minute penalty as Rabiu Ali missed a spot-kick late in first half, and youngster Godwin Obaje's equaliser two minutes through the second half earned the visitors a deserved point.
Determined to bounce back from their week 17 defeat to Akwa United, Pillars were rewarded for their enterprising start when a cross from Ali found Ibrahim who nodded the ball home.
Ali failed to double the lead the reigning Premier League champions when his spot-kick struck the cross bar with the goalkeeper.
The effort seemed to rattle Wikki's resolve as well as the goalframe, and the away side tried to maintain possession as the game developed into a stuttering midfield scrap, with chances at a premium.
And the away side broke the shackles in the 47th minute as Obaje slotted home a morale-boosting leveller.
Pillars produced an encouraging response with Ali trying to atone for penalty miss as he continued to dictate play at the middle of the park.
But Pillars had to settle for a point against the surprise package of the season, with a trip to Lobi Stars next up on 19th July.
