Ukeme Davies' first-half strike helped Akwa United to a 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars in a Nigeria Professional Football League week 17 match on Sunday.
Davies broke the deadlock eighteen minutes into the first half at at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, sending the ball home after Theophilus Afelokhai punched the ball to his path.
The visitors pressed forward in search of an equaliser without success as Akwa United preserved their lead and won in front of their fans.
Akwa United's win was their sixth from as many games in the top flight.
The Promise Keepers have accumulated a total of 21 points, four points adrift 9th placed Kano Pillars.
