Igbomalu Breaks Sunshine Queens Heart With Late Winner

Igboamalu Chinyere scored late as Nasarawa Amazons defeated Sunshine Queens 1-0 in a Nigeria Women Premier League clash at the Apa Aku Stadium on Stadium.

Sunshine Queens went into the week four encounter with their flawless record of three wins on the line.

In all fairness they deserved at least a point after the world class performance of experienced goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi.

The first short on target went to Nasarawa Amazons in the third minute, when Winifred Eyebhorias effort from a set-piece just outside the Sunshine Queens' box, went straight into goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi's safe arms.

Both teams created half-chances which they could not convert into goals.

In the 16th minute, Sunshine Queens attacked against the run of play, with forward Tina Oyateleme's low shot from the edge of the box going wide.

Emueje Oghiagbevhia tried her luck from range in the half-hour mark, but her effort was well dealt with by the impressive Oluehi.

As the half-time break approached, Sunshine Queens began to increase their tempo as they looked for a breakthrough.

However, the a long ranger from Gladys Akpa went off target as the match referee blew for half-time.

The home side continued to press Sunshine Queens in the early stages of the second half. Onyekachi Stella's shot from just outside the box was well-saved by keeper Oluehi 5 minutes after the restart.

In the 68th minute, substitute Igboamalu missed a sitter after some lovely play by her teammates on the right hand side.

With 9 minutes left on the clock, Nasarawa Amazons forward Josephine Mathias missed a glorious opportunity to put her team in the lead from the penalty spot. Her effort was well saved by the outstanding Oluehi.

The 2012/13 League champions continued to launch long balls to the box of the visiting team and they were rewarded in the 90th minute.

A cross to the area was headed to the back of the net by Igboamalu who hand her side a 1-0 victory over Sunshine Queens.
