Edwin happy with standard of play in derby clash, appeals for good officiating

Federation Cup Queens Rivers Angels clinched an impressive one-all draw against Delta Queens in the kickoff of the new Nigeria Women Premier League season at the Oleh Township Stadium on Saturday.

The Edwin Edem Okon tutored side got the first goal of the match in the 8th minute through Falconets right-back Ugo Njoku, but Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi equalised for the hosts in the added time of the first half.

Speaking to futbalgalore.blogspot.com after the game, the dark skinned coach, Edwin Okon expressed excitement at the standard of play by both teams, declaring that, his team is good enough for the league title.

“It was a good game. Both sides gave good account of themselves and we are going to take every game as it comes.

“We have prepared enough for this season. I think my girls played very well, but we are going to make necessary corrections before our next match and everything being equal we will clinch the league shield.”

“The league board has tried in it capacity with the commencement of the Premier League. It's a right step, a bold one.

He concluded by urging the match officials to be fair in their judgement of the game.

“It's not easy officiating in game situations, but I think the officials in black have a huge role to play,” he appealed.
