League football started on Friday to open up a massive football action
from across the country with a Nigerian Premier League week three
fixture between Heartland and Sharks of Porthacourt.
The Naze Millionaires continued their search for a win in the league
this term against Sharks of Porthacourt, who picked their first win at
home in week two.
Heartland again were compelled to share points with Sharks FC after
Dolphins of Porthacourt had also ran away with a point from the Dan
Anyim stadium. The match ended in a barren draw.
On Saturday, Bayelsa United were in action in a CAF Confederations Cup
first leg second round action against How Mine FC. The Restoration Boys
were expected to pick something on the road and it looked like that, as
the Nigerians took the lead in the 47th minute via Bernard Okorowanta.
The Zimbabwean team leveled up on the hour mark through Kadzola Morris.
Bayelsa held on till the later stage of the match but it looked like
the Nigerians will secure a draw not until a penalty was awarded to the
home team, Menard Mupera stepped up to take the spot kick which he
converted to give the home team a vital 2-1 win.
After Bayelsa United lost on the continent, Rangers and Kano Pillars
faced off in Enugu while NPL new boys; FC Taraba did battle with
Northern brothers, El-Kanemi Warriors in the Nigeria Premier League.
Though Kano Pillars lost in Enugu by 2-1. it looked better than what
they got in the same fixture last season (4-0). FC Taraba got their
second win this term at their home ground in Jalingo City stadium with
another lone goal victory against El-Kanemi Warriors.
The Nigeria National League week 7 had some matches played on Saturday.
MFM FC of Lagos picked yet another point on the road against Prime FC
of Osogbo, while Wiki Tourist of Bauchi and Go Round FC from Rivers
state recorded big wins at home with a 4-0 and 3-0 victories
respectively.
On Sunday, football fans around the country were treated to quality and entertaining football action.
Warri Wolves welcome CA Bizertin of Tunisia to Warri City stadium in a
CAF Confederations Cup match but the Seasiders put themselves in a tight
corner as the visiting team from Tunisia celebrated the barren draw
they recorded against Warri Wolves. With this result, the Seasiders now
have a tough task in Tunisia.
In the NPL on Sunday, it was home wins from all the centers, Crown FC
didn't show Dolphins of Porthacourt any respect compared to how they
chickened out the last time both teams met (Dolphins picked the maximum
points in both legs). This time around Crown came back from a goal down
to record a 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile on Sunday, the NNL recorded an away victory in an unusual
ground. The Flaming Flamingoes fans at the Onikan stadium were shocked
to see a determined ABS FC of Ilorin pick up maximum points against
Stationery Stores.
