Sunshine held by Enyimba in stalemate

Enyimba made sure they started the season on a good footing with their impressive start to the Globacom Nigeria Premier League season as Zachary Baraje's team ground out a 0-0 draw at Sunshine Stars on Thursday.

The People's Elephants crashed out of the CAF Champions League on the dreaded away goal rule to Malian side AS Real Bamako despite winning the second match one-nil away. They showed plenty of grit to keep Sunshine at bay in a hard-fought draw.

Sunshine's point takes them to the 10th on the table, while Enyimba are 9th on the log, although it's just week 1 as games will surely seperate men from boys.

The away side's' first chance fell to former Niger Tornadoes striker Sibi Gwar whose 20-yard goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

While the hosts were struggling with the wet surface, Enyimba were busy grinding out chances score but they were denied by ex-youth star Ikechukwu Ezenwa, in goal Sunshine.

Enyimba should have taken the lead when veteran striker Emeka Nwanna was put through on goal in the 65th minute, but once again he met the resistance of Ezenwa.
