Eagles star on the wishlist of Inter Milan

John Obi Mikel has been shortlisted as a potential signing of Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

One of the priorities of manager Walter Mazzarri is to bolster his ranks with the acquisition of a defensive midfielder.

If the decision is left in the hands of Mikel and his representatives, they would prefer remaining at Chelsea to moving to the Italian championship.

But the Super Eagle's first team opportunities have been limited since the arrival of Nemanja Matic in January and the form of Brazil international Ramires.

Hence, Mikel knows a departure from Stamford Bridge is not out of topic except he gets more minutes under his belt at the tail end of the season.

According to reporting by the Daily Mail, Inter Milan's sporting director, Piero Ausilio was amongst the spectators who watched Chelsea defeat Galatasaray on aggregate to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Though Obi Mikel made the 18 - man squad, he was an unused substitute while another Inter Milan target Fernando Torres tasted action in the last five minutes.

At 3.5 million euros per season, Mikel, whose contract expires in 2017, has one of the fattest paychecks amongst Nigerian footballers.
