Performance diary of Nigerians abroad on Saturday

ENGLAND

Crystal Palace held their nerves to a slim 1-0 win over colourless Chelsea. John Obi Mikel sat on the Chelsea bench but for full 90 minutes.


Newcastle United were beaten 4-0 by Southampton, with Shola Ameobi getting a bench role. His younger brother, Sammy is still out with injury.

At the Britannia Stadium, Peter Odemwingie added more fans to his collection with a sweet volley that ensured Stoke City won by a lone goal against Hull City. Sone Aluko was a 71st minute for Hull.

Swansea City dismissed Norwich City 3-0. Super Eagles skipper Joseph was missing for Canaries.

West Brom were held to a 3-3 at home to Cardiff City. Victor Anichebe was not in the West Brom team.

Kenneth Omeruo lasted 79 minutes for Middlesbrough when they beat Brighton 2-0.

Fred Onyedinma was in the thick of the action when Millwall drew 2-2 at home to Blackburn Rovers. His older compatriot Danny Shittu missed the match through injury.

Nedum Onuoha played 46 minutes for QPR who were drew 1-1 at home to Blackpool.

Hope Akpan came off the bench to play for Reading who split the points with Huddersfield. Jordan Obita lasted 90 minutes.

Leyton Orient went down 1-0 at home to Bradford City. Midfielder Moses Odubajo lasted 90 minutes for Orient.

Chuks Aneke and Uche Ikpeazu played from start to finish for Crewe who lost 1-2 to Coventry.

Wolverhampton Wanderers had the last laugh against Milton Keynes Dons as they won 1-0. Carl Ikeme kept a cleansheet, while Sanni Odelusi got the marching orders for the hosts.

FRANCE

Evian Thonon Gaillard caused an upset with a one-nil win over AS Monaco. Super Eagles left-back Elderson Echijille lasted the length for Monaco.

GERMANY

Bochum pipped Aue 1-0 at the Rewirpower Stadion. Solomon Okoronkwo was an 83rd minute substitute.

GREECE

Panathinaikos held Atromitos to a 0-0 stalemate. Abdul Ajagun lasted 67 minutes and was replaced by Nikos Karelis.

ISRAEL RELEGATION PLAY-OFFS

Juwon Oshaniwa was unable to prevent Ashdod from going down one-nil Ironi Ramat Hasharon.

Dele Aiyenugba made the difference for Bnei Yehuda with a total of 9 saves as his team held firm to win 1-0 at Hapoel Haifa.

ITALY

Nigerian international Victor Obinna Nsofor was replaced after 61 minutes in Chievo Verona's 3-0 loss at AC Milan.

NORWAY

Ugonna Anyora played 80 minutes for Haugesund who drew 1-1 at home to
Lillestroem.

John Chibuike was an unused substitute in Rosenborg's 2-2 thrilling match against Viking.

SCOTLAND

Efe Ambrose was in the Celtic side that drew 1-1 at home to Ross County.

SLOVENIA

Marshall Johnson did a great job down the middle despite ND Gorica's one-nil loss at Koper.

SOUTH AFRICA

Greg Etafia was sharp in goal, but he couldn't stop Orlando Pirates from winning 1-0 against his Moroka Swallows team.

TURKEY

Former RC Lens forward John Chukwudi Utaka grabbed a brace to help Sivasspor beat Gaziantepspor.

Rizespor edged Aksihar to win 3-2. Godfrey Oboabona was nowhere near the bench.

Also on fire in Turkey was former Enugu Rangers goal poacher Chikeluba Ofoedu who scored two in Karsiyaka's 4-1 win at Boluspor.

Ekigho Ehiosun was on target when Samsunspor won 3-1 at home to Sanliurfaspor. Aminu Umar fired blanks.

VIETNAM

Yahaya Adamu scored the 5th and 6th goal for QNK Quang Nam when they hammered Than Quang Nin 6-3.
