The Yak opens goal account

Yakubu Aiyegbeni has scored his first goal since joining Al Rayyan, in a 1-1 home draw against Al Arabi.

Yakubu a boxing day signing for AL-Rayyan grabbed the opener in the eighth minute, his first in seven games for the Qatar side, before Al-Arabi leveled in the second half.

The Yak, as he is known, is a year into a two year deal with Al-Rayan but his reputation as a top marksman has seen him play for nine different teams in fifteen seasons and only failed to grab double figures five times for all the clubs he has played for.

A veteran of four Africa Cup of Nations, he last played for Nigeria on June 10, in a 2010 World cup game against South Korea, when he arguably missed what can be rated among the worst miss of in the world cup history when he missed an open net on the line with the goalkeeper beaten.

However, he has a decent International goal-scoring record of scoring in every tournament he has played for Nigeria, scoring 21 goals in his 57 appearances since his 2000 debut.
