Saturday's laboured victory at the Federal Polytechnic Ede Sports Complex, was Prime's third home win having secured a point against Abia Comets in Umuahia, a forthnight ago and they led the way for the first time this season.

Prime moved on to top the table log with 10 points from five games.

Despite dominating possession with clearer chances Gateway goalkeeper, Ameh Godwin, was at his best to deny fireworks from Prime attacking force to end the first stanza 0-0.

Prime tightened up and pick up in form after the interval as they kept mounting pressure on stumbling-block Gateway defence, and that paid off in the 82nd minute when Idowu Olatunbosun, handed the ball in the 18-yard box and the referee Amadin James from Edo State signaled penalty for Ifeanyi to score from the penalty spot.

“We give God the glory for the desired victory, we struggled a lot for the win, Gateway came here with the mindset of picking a point with their defensive style of play,” Prime coach, Abimbola Samuel, stated after the match.

“We played with more intensity, but until the goal came we found it very tough. We are presently where we want to be, we have to carry on in the same vein to keep improving, correcting our mistakes and making progress."

Gateway coach, Henry Nwosu, said his team will go back to the drawing board to correct all mistakes his wards committed and build a winning mentality into his players as they welcome Abia Comets.
