People's Elephants off to Akure

Enyimba FC of Aba have departed for the Akure venue of their season's opener against Sunshine Stars.

Enyimba returned to the country from Mali on Monday but moved straight into camping in Ota in preparation for Thursday’s game, and team midfielder Thomas Zenke is optimistic they will get a result in Akure.

“It's painful we have to exit the champions league, the way we did but is about time we let it go and focus on the league,we have all what it takes to get a result in Akure and that is what we are aiming for,” Zenke said.

The former ABS star believes they are the best team in Nigeria at the moment despite winning the league in the past 4 seasons and Kano Pillars winning it for two years running.

"We are still the biggest and best team in Nigeria, the super 4 where all teams who qualified for continental engagement participated in is a testament to my claim, we won it with a 100% record and we didn't concede a single goal in four, so what else is the proof, it's unfortunate we crashed out of the champions league but that doesn't change the fact that we are Nigeria's best team."
