Stephen Ezeh broke the deadlock with a dramatic injury-time winner as
Crown FC finally succumbed to Lobi Stars FC, in a Globacom Nigeria
Premier League week 1 match played at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium.
The striker claimed his 1st goal of the season in injury time of a game the Evans Ogenyi should have wrapped up long before. It clinched a first victory and ensured a good start for the home lads.
Lobi had earlier wasted glorious opportunities to score in a game which rarely hit the heights, but the former's late contribution proved enough to seal a 1-0 win.
Crown gave as good as they got for long periods, but the late strike was hard on them after a resilient performance.
Lobi went into the game on the back of a 7-match winning streak at home.
The initial signs were positive as a team strengthened significantly by former Shooting Stars playmaker Philip Asuquo thrived on the final third.
However, the wheels then rather came off for the Ajilete Boys as they found their feet and started to hit their hosts on the counter with the pace of Bode Daniel a particular threat.
Coach Evans, who had signalled his intention to play two strikers for the season in his programme notes, swiftly abandoned the system in favour of a 4-3-3 pattern.
Crown's efforts to deny the home side time and space proved effective and Lobi became increasingly frustrated as they struggled to find any cohesion.
But with neither side able to retain possession for more than a handful of rudimentary passes, chances were few and far between.
With some fans at the stands leaving their seats in anger, Ezeh was too motivated to hand the homers the win with a late header.
