Warri Wolves and Bayelsa United have moved to the second round of the
CAF Confederations Cup, giving Nigerian fans something to cheer after
both Kano Pillars and Enyimba were knocked out of the CAF Champions
League.
Earlier on Saturday, Bayelsa United qualified for the next round with a 2-0 victory over FC Kondzo of Congo while Warri Wolves and Union Douala of Cameroon settled for a 1[ score line with goals scored from the spot, Najare and Djumo score via penalty for their respective teams.
Enyimba who had a tougher task in Mali secured a win but it wasn't enough to see them through to the next round. The Aba Elephant lost via away goals rule. NPL champions Kano Pillars have since been thrown out of the continent leaving Nigerians to focus more on the CAF Confederation Cup.
According to fans reaction on social media, Nigerian clubs have not represented them well on the continent sighting the performance of Kano Pillars and Enyimba as not good enough but with Bayelsa and Warri Wolves in the next the round there's still hope to see a Nigerian club feature in the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.
A fan took it further saying: "I can't imagine seeing a Nigerian champion leaving the big stage in African club football competition at the early stage."
It would be recalled that no Nigerian club has featured at the group stage of both CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup since 2012.
