Etafia Shines In Absa League Match

Moroka Swallows had goalkeeper Greg Etafia to thank in their one-all draw encounter against Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership match at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.

The goal minder who represented Nigeria during the 2000 Summer Olympics was in good form for the homers, who should have also nicked the three maximum points.

Swallows started positively and had their first chance on goal in the second minute when Ashraf Hendricks met a right-sided free-kick into the box, but his header was well-saved by Brighton Mhlongo.

Pirates took control of the game after that and had their first shot on goal in the 12th minute when Kermit Erasmus fired inches over from just inside the box.

In the 35th minute Swallows took the lead, against the run of play, when a miscued shot from Lucky Baloyi was turned home by veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe from 14-yards out.

The visitors saw more of the ball possession in the opening half, but shots on goal were even at three apiece.

The Buccaneers dictated terms in the second half, but they found the confident Etafia too motivated to beat.

In the 59th minute, the dangerous Erasmus worked himself into some space on the edge of the box, but he saw his effort well-saved by Etafia.

Ten minutes later, Etafia came to Swallows rescue when he superbly denied Erasmus again, this time from 16-yards out.

Pirates finally made their pressure tell in the 78th minute when Erasmus played Lehlohonolo Majoro through on goal and he made no mistake from ten-yards out, beating Etafia, who wasn't at fault for the goal.

The Buccaneers continued to push forward in the final ten minutes, but couldn't put the ball past the ex-Lobi Stars safest pair of hands.
