Kwara SWAN Lays Foundation For Secretariat

The Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has been given twelve months to complete its State Secretariat adding that can only be achieved if all the money and materials donated are judiciously used.

The Elerin of Erin-Ile, His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulGaniyu Ajibola Ibrahim Olusookun the second (MFR) gave the charge today while laying the foundation stone of the Secretariat, located at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The first Class Monarch who promised to rally round SWAN to ensure that the project is completed and commissioned, called on Kwara State government, stakeholders and others to contribute towards the project.

The Royal Father used the occasion to call on sports administrators in the State to wake up from their slumber, while urging government to be committed to sports development backed up with political will, to return the lost glory of sports in the State.

The Elerin of Erin-Ile, who is the Royal Coordinator of the Secretariat project charged Kwara NUJ to be more vibrant in their practice.

The Chairman of the State Sports Council, Barrister Lanre Giwa, who represented the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development at the occasion commended SWAN for laying a commendable legacy for Sports reporting in the State and Nigeria.

He promised government`s support to the project, adding that SWAN has a good working relationship with the government, Sports Ministry and the Sports Council.

He donated one hundred thousand naira N100,000 on behalf of the State Commissioner for Works and Transports, Alhaji Abubakar Kannike.

The State Chairman of NUJ, Mallam Abiodun Abdulkareem commended SWAN for making history with the project, just as praised the State government for its support.
He also commended the Elerin of Erin-Ile for his support to NUJ and SWAN.

The General Manager of The Herald Newspapers, Alhaji Adebayo Abdulrasaq who spoke on behalf of the Head of Media Houses pledged the support of 500 pieces of blocks.

The President of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Yusuf Dauda promised to support the project.

The General Manager of ABS FC, Alloy Chukwuemeka, who represented the President of SWAN, Alhaji Saidu Abubakar pledged 500 blocks on behalf of National SWAN, and another 500 blocks on behalf of ABS FC.

Kwara United FC also supported the project with the sum of two hundred thousand naira. While announcing the donation, the General Manager of the Club, Alhaji Haruna Maigidansanmo also pledged personal donation of one hundred thousand naira.

The Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Alhaji Busari Ishola announed a donation of twenty bags of cement.

Other donations came from Kwara State Sports Council N30,000.00, Kwara YSFON N25,000.00 and Energy Sports promotion limited under the Chairmanship of Atolagbe-Aro Rasheed N50,000.00.

The Pillar of Sports in Nigeria, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, who was represented by Mr. Vincent Ogbonnaya Brown announced a donation of 400 blocks.

Earlier in his opening address, the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Bunmi Adedoyin said SWAN is a major stakeholders in Sports development, and the Secretariat project will assist in broadening the scope.

He commended the State government, Ministry of Sports, Sports Council and other stakeholders for their supports.
