Enyeama Turns Hero In Cup Match

Super Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama was the hero as Lille were triumphant on penalties in a French League Cup match against Bordeaux.

Lille were 6-5 winners from the spot after their tie against Bordeaux ended 1-1 at the end of extra time at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Mariano had given Bordeaux a 16th-minute lead, only for Lille to hit back through Michael Frey 14 minutes later.

Cheick Diabaté came off the bench to wreak havoc among the home back four, and might have given Willy Sagnol's side the lead 11 minutes from the end of normal time, but after spinning cleverly past Marko Basa and David Rozehnal, the talismanic giant Malian's shot was well saved by Enyeama.

The Nigeria international's opposite number, Azbe Jug, saved Les Girondins in extra-time by halting a Divock Origi strike, and then parried the opening spot-kick of the shoot-out from Florent Balmont.

Enyeama did likewise with Julien Faubert's penalty before Jaroslav Plasil struck the bar to hand the hosts the advantage.

Sidibé's miss allowed Touré to level things, and then Origi struck a post and Nicolas Pallois saw Enyeama save his effort as both sides' nerve failed.

Enyeama then scored a spot-kick of his own, and after the shoot-out went into sudden-death, Pape Souaré found the net before Mariano fired over the bar to hand the hosts a last-eight berth.
