Zico: Better Days Lies Ahead For Confluence Queens

Head Coach of Confluence Queens FC, Sulieman Adamu known as “ ZICO ” is optimistic his side can get points away from home after the Wada Queens forced Osun Babes to a 1-1 draw.

There was a chance for Osun Babes and it turned out to be the opener in the week four Nigeria Women Premier League played at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium on Saturday.

A low cross to the box by skillful starlet Ikoyo Rejoice caused confusion in the defence line of Confluence Queens and Edewor Precious poked home her 4th goal of the season from close range.

Confluence Queens got a penalty in the 21st minute when Lola Philips was adjudged to have been brought down by Rachael Akpojotor. Mariam Aluko finished from the spot, scoring her first goal of the season.

However, the home team failed to utilize their few scoring chances and had to labour hard to avoid their first defeat at home this season against Osun Babes who remains unbeaten with four games.

Speaking through the club's spokesperson, Tosin Ojo, Zico lamented the set back from points dropped, insisting that his side can as well pick points away from home despite the disappointing result

"It was not a good result for us, because we had expected to win the game and work hard to get more on the road but it's disappointing we dropped two points at home.”

“All we need right now is work hard and correct on our deficiencies, we can also pick points away from home.” Zico concludes

Head coach of Osun Babes Mr Johnson Kehinde praised his girls' determination and good officiating of the match adding that the "Omoluabi Babes" capitalized on their opponent's weakness.

“We bless God for the point, and the officiating today (Saturday) is very okay, I think it's just the will of God, these girls have not been paid salaries for eleven months now but they are ready to do better than last season.”

“Confluence Queens of last season is better than this season judging from today's performance, and I'm surprised they didn't use any of the two players (Basirat Amoo and Mary Saiki) signed from our team," Kehinde said.

The Wada Queens have only managed 4 points from a possible 12 from four matches and will return to action on Wednesday to face Ibom Angels in the Federation Cup billed for Anambra before playing away to the same team at the weekend in the match-day four of the NWPL.
