With their 9th win of the season, Sunshine Stars were able to reclaim
their spot at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League with a
3-1 win over Akwa United at the Akure Township Stadium on Saturday
afternoon.
The victory was well deserved for the Akure Gunners as they moved back to the top of the log with 29 points from a possible 45, while Akwa United are in 15th place.
The win for Kennedy Boboye's Sunshine Stars was orchestrated through their superb wing play that created problems for the Promise Keepers' defence from the first whistle.
The Promise Keepers went behind as Kehinde Adedipe put the ball at the back of the net in the 8th minute.
After going in front Sunshine Stars completely dominated possession and starved Akwa United of the ball.
And in the 48th minute there was nothing the Promise Keepers could do to stop the second goal. The goal came through Dayo Ojo.
Akwa United looked to be chasing shadows while Sunshine Stars stroked the ball around the park with consummate ease.
In the 57th minute Prince Aggrey put the result beyond doubt with a wicked volley.
Akwa United did manage to find a consolation goal through Nnamso Edo in the 85th minute, 3-1, but it was not enough to scare a Sunshine Stars team that never looked like losing.
