Nigerian born midfielder on fire

Chuks Aneke’s goals for Crewe Alexandra would be in vain if the League One club, who are battling with relegation at the moment, fail to survive the drop.

In the latest round of matches in England’s third - tier, the Anglo - Nigerian starlet netted his 10th and 11th goal of the season for the Railwaymen.

But those goals amounted for nothing after his side lost 4 -2 to Peterborough United.

Crewe Alexandra shot into the lead in the 13th minute through Chuks Aneke, only for Britt Assombalonga to restore parity for Peterborough United from the penalty spot two minutes later.

Four minutes before the interval, another Anglo - Nigerian Nicky Ajose, who is having his most productive season as a professional with 13 strikes in the league, got the noses of the Posh in front.

Chuks Aneke, 20, then leveled the scoreline for Crewe in the 58th minute before strikes by Swanson and Washington condemned them to their 18th defeat of the season.

On 73 minutes, Uche Ikpeazu, who had been sidelined for the past one month with an ankle sprain, entered the fray but he could not add to his goal tally.

Despite being a midfielder, Chuks Aneke is the leading scorer for the Railwaymen with 11 goals in 32 appearances.

Steven Davis' charges have another away match next Tuesday against Walsall at the Banks's Stadium.
