Former Enyimba star in talks with PSL team

Mpumalanga Black Aces hope to begin contract talks with Nigeria international Onyekachi Okonkwo and his agent in the coming days.

Onyekachi Okonwko, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season, and it is assumed that he has impressed the coaching staff to earn himself a new deal.

The reason discussions were delayed was because the decision makers of the Zionists had been busy mapping out strategies for the club to stay afloat.

Clive Barker's side have improved in their last five games, chalking up 10 points from a possible 15, meaning the coast is almost clear in their fight against relegation.

Mohammed Lawal, who advices Onyekachi Okonkwo told a Nigerian source: ''Mpumalanga Black Aces want Tico for another season but we have not started negotiations as the club were battling against relegation.”

''But now they just have to win few more games to be certain of remaining in the PSL. On Saturday, they will be playing Moroka Swallows and if they can get a descent result, then they will be a bit safer and discussions can start.''

Onyekachi Okonkwo has made 14 appearances for Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Premier Soccer League, finding the back of the net once against Polokwane City in December.

The former Enyimba maestro had two separate spells at Orlando Pirates before his move to Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit.
