Neymar and Messi can combine effectively- Pep

Pep Guardiola has insisted that Lionel Messi and Neymar can form an excellent striker partnership next term.

The Brazilian youngster joined the Blaugrana last month to much fanfare, but some, including Johan Cruyff, have doubted whetther the two South Americans can play together.

The new Bayern Munich boss though, is confident they can, whilst also commenting on his old side.

“Barcelona have always had some of the mist brilliant players in the world in their squad,” he told Lance.

“And Neymar and Messi are undoubtedly two of the best at the moment.

“I know Messi very well and he is a fantastic person as well as a player. And I've met Neymar a few times and he seems like a good lad.

“I'm sure they will have no problem playing together.

“Barcelona suffered some injuries at the end of last season, but a team who reached 100 points cannot be 'in crisis'.”

The former Spain international then answered questions on La Roja's recent Confederations Cup loss to Brazil.

“It seemed perfectly normal to me that Spain lost,” he added. “Physically Brazil were better.

“But Spain have a lot of talented youngsters. Just look at the U21 and the U20s.

“I believe that Spain are still favourites going into the World Cup.”
