Gunners step up Suarez hunt

Arsenal stepped up their attempts to sign Liverpool star striker Luis Suarez on Tuesday night by - lodging an audacious bid of 40m pounds plus one pound for the Liverpool forward. By adding one pound above the 40 million pounds have triggered the clause in his Anfield contract.

The clause demands that Liverpool inform Suarez of any offer in excess of 40m pounds and Arsenal's bid will only complicate the talks scheduled for Wednesday in Melbourne between the unsettled striker and his Anfield employers.
The bid, made by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis was swiftly rejected by the Anfield club, who remain insistent that Suarez will not be sold this summer, who have signed a 100,000 pounds-a-week four-year deal at Liverpool last summer.
It is believed it would take a figure of more than 50m pounds to contemplate a change of heart at Anfield. Arsenal have already missed out on Gonzalo Higuian and Wayne Rooney this summer and are going out all guns to land Suarez.
Liverpool will sit down for more talks with Suarez after Wednesday's friendly against Melbourne Victory at the MCG and reiterate that they do not want him to leave.
