Luiz is Barca's primary target

Barcelona have reportedly determined that Chelsea’s David Luiz is their primary transfer objective this summer.

The Catalans have been linked on and off with the Brazilian international this summer, but were seen to have prioritised a move for his international colleague Thiago Silva.

However, in seeing the trail for the Paris Saint-Germain centre-back go cold, the Blaugrana are apparently back in for the Chelsea defender.

The club have made clear that the 26-year-old is their primary target this summer market now.

Luiz, who is due to begin preseason under Jose Mourinho today, is seen as open to a move out to the Camp Nou.

His agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, is also reported as having been in negotiations every day for the past two weeks with Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

It is understood that with talks with the player seen as ‘advanced’, the Catalans are keen to work quickly this week to try and tie up a deal for Luiz, to incorporate him in Gerardo Martino’s squad as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, reports also indicate that Barcelona will face competition for the defender’s signature from former Coach Pep Guardiola’s new team Bayern Munich.
