Naija Players Xploits Abroad

Sammy Ameobi's early strike helped Newcastle United to a one-nil friendly victory over Blackpool FC at the Bloomfield Road.

Cercle Bruges earned a deserved one-all draw at Mons. Former Enugu Rangers star Michael Uchebo was given 20 minutes of action by the coaching crew of Bruges.


Hull City lost for the first time in their pre-season campaign as they went down 2-1 to Birmingham City at the Saint Andrew's. Fit-again forward Omotsone Aluko scored a 70th minute penalty for Hull.

Sandhausen fought in vain and eventually lost 1-0 to Aue in a Germany Bundesliga II tie. Former Hertha Berlin and Pecsi forward Solomon Okoronkwo was involved in the home side's only goal. On the bench for the unlucky side was former Julius Berger defender Seyi Olajengbesi.

FC Cologne forced visiting Fortuna Dusseldolf to a one-all draw. Emerging right-back Leon Balogun shone in a 3-5-2 formation, while former Mainz forward Anthony Ujah rescued a point for the homers with his 67th minute solo effort.

Rosenborg BK showed Brann no mercy, as they were in ruthless form and won 4-1 away from home. Workaholic striker John Chibuike was rewarded with a 90th minute strike.

8-man CFR Cluj and Poli Timisoara played a thrilling two-all draw. Cluj's new boy Derick Chuka Ogbu endeared himself to his home fans with his all round display. However, he earned a first half yellow card and lasted the entire duration of the match.

Two goals from Jose Manuel Jurado, one each from Emmanuel Emenike and Pavel Yakovlev helped Spartak Moscow to a 4-1 win against Dinamo Moscow at the Arena Khimki. The return of Emenike will come as a relief to the technical crew of the Super Eagles.

Ahmed Musa produced a scintillating display as the lone striker to help CSKA Moscow defeat rivals Lokomotiv Moscow 2-1 on Sunday. The former Kano Pillars and Venlo forward netted the winner 5 minutes from time. Recently recalled Eagles star, Victor Obinna Nsofor watched the match from the bench in the colours of Lokomotiv.

Elverum and Ranheim drew two-all. Emeh Izuchukwu missing a penalty kick for the former and lasted the length.

San Van Don Stadium was a bad hunting ground for Akpan Bassey and Ganiyu Bolaji Oseni as they both played 90 minutes in Hoang Anh Gia Lai's one-nil loss to Song Lam.

Standard Liege beat Mechelen two-nil away on Sunday to warn rivals of their title credentials this season. Liege striker Imoh Ezekiel was sharp at the right-hand side of attack. He was substituted 12 minutes to the end of the match.

At the MCH Arena, a total of 8759 fans cheered Midtjylland to a one-nil slim victory against visiting Copenhagen. Nigerian duo Izunna Uzochuchkwu and Slyvester Igboun were both utilised as the central midfieders by Midtjylland. They revelled and put up excellent output.

Sogndal and Haugesund shared the spoils, playing 1-1 in a Norwegian league match played on Sunday. Defensive midfielder Ugonna Anyora was introduced in the second half to add the needed steel to Haugesund's midfield.

Ha Noi T&T walloped Binh Duong 4-1 at home on Sunday. Samson Kayode Olaleye added a brace to his name. On the loosing side were Okon Ekpe and Sunday Emmanuel.

In Poland, Slask lost 3-2 to Jagiellonia Bialystok. One-cap Super Eagles centre-back Ugo Ukah was called to duty by Bialystok and he didn't let them down.

In Kiev, Haruna Lukman's industry helped Dynamo Kiev beat Sevastopol 2-0. The former Monaco midfielder scored his team's first goal and played a part in Mbokani's winning strike.

Long An continued their impressive form with a 3-2 home win against Kien Giang. Ebimo West manned the defence for the hosts and did a good job. Felix Gbenga Ajala and Suleiman Abdullahi scored one goal each in the colours of Giang.

Horsen smashed four goals past AB in a Danish Division 2 clash. Nigerian-born striker Jude Nworuh grabbed a brace in the match.

Silkeborg also thrashed Bronshoj 4-1 at the Mascot Park. Adeola Runshewe registered his name on the scoresheet.

Vard Haugesund and Hodd played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday. Akeem Latifu featured for Hodd.
