Gonzalo Higuain has been confirmed as a Napoli player by President Aurelio De Laurentiis, completing a transfer from Real Madrid.
After the two clubs agreed a deal believed to be for an initial fee of €37m, the 25-year-old flew in to Rome on Wednesday to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on personal terms.
Posting on his official Twitter account, Napoli’s President De Laurentiis confirmed that the Argentine striker, along with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, have virtually completed their respective transfers.
“Higuain and Reina have passed their medical and will soon join the group,” wrote De Laurentiis today.
“On Monday evening we will have a big party at the San Paolo. You will meet not only the new players but also see the new shirts.”
The move ends six-and-a-half years at the Santiago Bernabeu for Higuain, during which time he has netted over 100 goals.
The striker also becomes the third player to move between Madrid and Napoli this summer, on from Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol.
