NFF Men's Fed Cup Quarter Finals (Preview)

The quarter-finals of Nigeria’s Challenge Cup tournament will take place this Wednesday as the last eight teams aim to get closer to win the coveted trophy. Four out of the eight teams contesting for semi-final spots have won the cup before.

Kano Pillars and Warri Wolves have been drawn to contest a fierce battle. Pillars beat Gombe United 1-0 on 24 July to advance to the quarter-finals, while Wolves beat Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in their round of 16 match. Pillars placed 4th in the last tournament. They have also won it twice.

Defending champions Heartland play Akwa United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Heartland beat Ingas 1-0 to advance to the quarter-finals. Akwa United beat Enugu Rangers 2-1 to progress. Heartland have won the Fed Cup on three occasions, most. United are yet to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition since it was set-up.

Akwa Starlets play Lobi Stars at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu. Lobi Stars played against Heartland in the 2012 final and lost the match 2-1. Starlets have accounted for the elimination of Dolphins and Abia Warriors.

Enyimba International, who have won the competition 2 times, take-on Nasarawa United. The Peoples Elephants are favoured to win at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.
