Pillars revels in crucial draw in Umuahia

Kano Pillars picked up their first away point of the season after playing to a 0-0 draw with Abia Warriors.

In a game which Ex-Kano Pillars coach, Ladan Bosso needed all three points to prove to the pillars hierarchy they were wrong in letting him leave two seasons, Abia Warriors who shocked Enyimba 1-0 last week in the Aba derby found the visitors a hard nut to crack and ended the half 0-0 with possession evenly shared between both teams.

Abia Warriors resumed the second half pushing the visitors back and Bishop Onyeudo's poor finish was the saving grace for Kano Pillars in the 55th minute.

Pillars will however threatened with a chance of their own 10 minutes later with Kabiru Umar shooting narrowly wide after good work from Bello Kofarmata on the right.

Abia Warriors almost punished Pillars for the miss but a screamer from Cletus Itodo brought out a fine reflex save for Theophilus Affelokhai in goal for Kano Pillars.

Kano Pillars responded to the scare by putting up a nice shift defensively, which was good enough for the champions to grab their first away point, while Abia Warriors will rue missed opportunities that cost them all three points.

The point gained will ease the pressure on coach Okey Emordi, who has been heavily and roundly criticised by the Pillars faithful for the team indifferent start to the defence of their title.
