Nigeria and Benin Republic will meet in a competitive U-17 match for the first time in six years at the semi-finals of the WAFU B Tournament at the Stade Municipal in Togo on Friday.
The Nigeria versus Benin clash will kick off at 3:00 pm local time (4:00pm Nigerian time) to be followed immediately with the game between hosts Togo and Mali in the other semi-final at the same venue.
The winners of both clashes will meet in Sunday’s final, while the losers contest in the third-place match.
The Golden Eaglets are the only team at
the tournament with a hundred per cent record so far and coach Emmanuel
Amuneke remains upbeat that his team will continue with their winning
streak.
“It is our objective to win all our
matches here and gradually, we are working towards our target,” the
former international said.
“I’m impressed with the performance of
the boys so far and I keep reminding them that nobody is going to gift
them with victory, so we will keep working hard to win this tournament.”
There will be plenty to play for between
Nigeria and Benin for obvious reasons. Apart from being next door
neighbours, the ‘Little Squirrels’ eliminated Nigeria from the Algeria
2009 CAN U-17 Tournament after a 3-2 aggregate win.
