A solitary strike from Ibrahim Babangida condemned visiting Gombe United to a 1-0 loss against Nasarawa United.
Gombe United never got going in the game and it was only poor finishing that stop Nasarawa United from taking a healthy lead into the break which ended 0-0.
Upon resumption of the second half, despite the strong defensive display of Idris Papa in the centre for Gombe United, Ibrahim Babangida scored what was the game's lone goal.
Gombe responded by throwing in Emmanuel Bivan in a bid to force an equaliser but it was Nasarawa United who almost increased the lead if not for a save by Gombe's safe hand Chigozie Agbim.
At the end of 90minutes in a jam packed Township Stadium in Lafia, all that was heard was the chants of victory from the excited home fans while Gombe United will return home empty handed fuelling speculation about the future of manager Maurice Cooreman.
