Nigeria will put up the trophy they won in South Africa for
challenge in Morocco next year but before then the Nigerians will have
to scale through the qualifiers first.
The Confederation of African Football has stated that the draw for the
Final Round of Qualifiers of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco
2015 will take place at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo on Sunday 27th
April, from 12:30hours GMT. (1:30pm Nigerian time)
According to a statement on CAF's website, the AFCON qualifiers,
Morocco 2015 will be made up of seven groups of four teams who contest
on a home and away basis of which the seven group winners, seven group
runners-up and the best third-placed side will qualify directly for the
final tournament while the host nation, Morocco is automatically
qualified.
According to the draw procedure, 28 teams will be divided into four
groups with each pot containing seven teams based on the CAF
classification.
The Super Eagles who won the last edition of AFCON held in South Africa
in 2013 beating the likes of Ivory Coast led by influential Dider
Drogba, have been pooled in Pot 1 alongside Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire,
Zambia, Burkina Faso, Mali and Tunisia.
Pot 1: Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Mali, Tunisia
Pot 2: Algeria, Angola, Cap Verde, Togo, Egypt, South Africa, Cameroon
Pot 3: RD Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Niger, Guinea, Senegal, Sudan
Pot 4: The Seven yet to be decided by the preliminary round matches
(Teams in the same pot cannot be paired against each other)
That means Nigeria will face one out of the teams in pot 2 which has
Algeria, Angola, Cap Verde, Togo, Egypt, South Africa and Cameroon.
The teams in pot 3 "RD Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Niger, Guinea, Senegal
and Sudan" will face teams the seven teams that qualifies from the
preliminary stage.
