Teams registers for Discovery Cup

Twenty clubs nationwide have registered for the maiden edition of the Discovery Cup U-18 Football Competition, scheduled for November 20 to 27 at the Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan.

Malam Magaji Dambatta, National Secretary of Discovery Sports Federation, the organisers of the competition, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ibadan.

Dambatta said that the competition was being organised to discover young talents for future development of the game.

"We will be very strict about the age limits and any player above that seal, will be disqualified.

"The victorious team at the competition,, will get  ticket to partake in an international youth tournament later in the year in South Africa,’’ he said.

The secretary added that other consolation prizes included certificates and medals, adding that  kits would be given to teams with outstanding performance at the tournament.

He said that free accommodation had been arranged for players while officials were to cater for themselves.

The secretary stated that some notable Nigerian who had distinguished themselves in grassroots football in the country, would also be honoured with awards at the finals of the competition on November 27.
