Rangers sent packing by CAF

Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers have been kicked out of the CAF Confederation Cup after they fielded an ineligible player versus Sfaxien of Tunisia.

According to an official statement by CAF, goalkeeper Daniel Emmanuel was not properly registered for the competition, but was fielded by Rangers in their qualifying matches against Sfaxien.

Rangers won the first leg in Enugu 1-0 and held the Tunisians to a goalless draw in the return fixture.

The Tunisian club have thus replaced Rangers in Group A of the Confederation Cup.

The other teams in the group are Stade Malien of Mali, Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia and Saint Georges from Ethiopia.

Shooting Stars of Ibadan have insisted goalkeeper Emmanuel was not properly cleared to join rangers this season and this may well have led to their sensational ouster from the continental club competition.
