Lionel Messi’s legal defence team have met with the prosecutor for economic crimes in Barcelona with the hope of reaching a deal.
The Argentine forward has been accused of tax evasion between 2006 and 2009, with the Blaugrana forward and his father allegedly siphoning €4m of image rights through taax havens in Belize and Uruguay.
Judicial sources told Europa Press that the player may have to pay between €5m and €9m in order to reach an agreement with the prosecutor.
Even if that agreement is reached however, it will not prevent the player and his father attending court on September 17 to explain his alleged involvement in defrauding tax authorities.
