Nigerian striker Olarenwaju Kayode scored two
goals as an enterprising Maccabi Netanya took the lead twice before
Maccabi Tel Aviv scrambled to force a 3-3 draw in a match where fortunes
turned either way in the Round XXI match of the Israeli Ligat HaAl at
the Winner Stadium on Sunday.
The draw earned one point each for hosts and the visiting team, but their position did not change with the visitors occupying No 1 and the home side still at 7th.
Netanya opened the attack through Kayode’s forays in the quarter hour mark, and the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles striker fired Air India in front.
But before Netanya could savour the lead, Dor Micha scored the equalizer in the 20th minutes.
Action was a bit dour but as the match neared closing stages in the first half, Kayode was at it again finding the back of the net and Netanya headed to the locker room with a slender 2-1 lead.
Netanya tried its best before Eden Ben Basat chanced on a foolish defensive lapse to put the score back even (2-2) in the 49th minute.
The lucky Tel Aviv then took the lead for the first time in the game through Eran Zahavi.
Eleven minutes from time, their joy was shortlived when the lurking Dia Saba delivered the equalizer for the hosts.
The brace has increased Kayode’s top flight goals to eight in the current league season in Israel.
Tel Aviv is the club paying the wages of Super Eagles midfielder Nosa Igiebor.
