Obada's Strike Fails To Rescue Swallows From Defeat

Nigeria striker Felix Obada found the back of the net but failed to save Moroka Swallows from bowing down 2-1 to Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

The result sees Polokwane move up to fifth on the league table with 28 points while Swallows continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table in 1th place with 19 points, only one point outside the relegation zone.

Veteran goal minder Greg Etafia lasted the entire match duration for Swallows.

The home side started the better of the two teams and opened the scoring in the tenth minute when Easu Kanyenda met a right wing cross with a superb diving header to find the back of the net, 1-0.

Swallows almost hit back four minutes later when Lerato Chabangu tried his luck from distance, but saw his stinging effort brilliantly saved by Modiri Marumo.

After that the game took a bit of scrappy turn as both teams squandered possession with poor passing and bad decision making.

Consequently, chances on goal were few and far between as Polokwane entered the half time break 1-0 up.

Swallows came out attacking in the second half and came close to equalising in the 58th minute when a 16-yard volley from Lantshele Phalane was parried away from goal by Marumo.

Chabangu picked up the loose ball thereafter and squared for Vuyisile Wana, but he skewed his shot wide with an empty net at his mercy.

The Birds made their second half pressure pay off in the 70th minute when Obada beat two players on his way into the box before clipping the ball into the back of the net with ease, 1-1.

Swallows almost took the lead in the 81st minute when Luyolo Nomandela struck the woodwork from 20-yards out.

Polokwane stole the three points in the 91st minute when a Puleng Tloane struck the crossbar and Rendani Ndou was quickest to react and tap home from close range, 2-1.
